BloxNote Roles: All Four Roles, Sides, and Objectives Explained

A BloxNote role guide covering all four roles — Kira, Kira Follower, L, and Investigator — with each role's side, ability, and win condition, plus the specialist guidance to open for the role you receive.

BloxNote deals out exactly four roles at the start of each round: Kira, the Kira Follower, L, and the Investigator. They split into two opposing teams. Kira and the Kira Follower form the killing team and win by eliminating the other side, while L and the Investigators work together to finish the shared task meter or vote the killer out. The role you receive is randomised at the start of each round, which is why learning all four roles matters more than specialising in one.

What each role does in practice

According to the in-game tutorial:

  • Investigators complete a series of tasks around the map to fill up the progress bar, and can help L deduce who Kira is and vote them out.
  • L can access abilities (such as setting up cameras around the map on up to two or three people) and can send messages to any player or multiple players every few seconds.
  • Kira eliminates players by stealing IDs by going near people, and can pass the notebook to the Kira Follower; Kira and the Follower can privately chat.
  • The Kira Follower can help Kira steal IDs by using the Shinigami Eyes and clicking on a person or getting near a person.

How each role experiences the round

Each role interacts with the round through a different resource. The Investigator's resource is time, spent on tasks that raise a shared bar; the more tasks the team completes, the closer the task side is to an outright win. L's resource is information, gathered privately and released selectively to steer the vote without exposing how much is known. Kira's resource is opportunity: the killer needs both a stolen ID and a moment out of sight, which is why map awareness matters more for Kira than raw aggression. The Kira Follower's resource is redundancy, since the notebook can be passed and the killing team survives losing one member. L also has a successor mechanism: if L is eliminated or the round runs past its limit, a replacement takes over the detective role, which means the task team is never fully decapitated by a single kill. This asymmetric design means each role sees the same map differently: an Investigator sees task markers and safe routes, Kira sees isolation and timing windows, L sees information to distribute, and the Follower sees a partner to protect.

How roles are handed out at round start

Roles are randomised at the start of each round with no player preference system, and the distribution depends on how many players are in the lobby. In a full server the killing team is typically Kira plus the Kira Follower, while everyone else is on the Investigator side under L — though this is a community description of a typical lobby, not a confirmed rule. Because you cannot choose a role, the practical takeaway is to learn every role rather than optimising for one.

What remains unconfirmed

Several structural details of the role system are not confirmed and should be treated as unknown: the exact seat distribution for any lobby size; the full permission set of each role (in particular exactly what the Kira Follower can and cannot do with the notebook); whether an L death alone advances the killers' win condition or only contributes alongside other eliminations; and whether tie votes, timers, or killing L have any mechanical effect on the killers' task. Reports also currently disagree on the number of L-aligned players and lobby sizes, so no exact distribution numbers can be stated as fact — check the in-game role reveal at the start of each round to see your lobby's actual split.
